The Short Version
We’re here to make sure you have an awesome day on the trails. These terms exist to keep things fair for everyone — not to trip you up. If anything’s unclear, just give us a ring or shoot us a message before you book.
1. Our Gear
All bikes and accessories on our site are described by category — so when you book a Full Suspension MTB, you’re booking that class of bike, not a specific frame number. Every bike in our fleet is well-maintained and trail-ready, and we’ll always do our best to set you up with exactly what you asked for.
If your requested size or model isn’t available (rare, but it happens), we’ll sort you out with the closest equivalent — same category, same quality. We’ll always be upfront about it.
2. Picking Up & Dropping Off
Collection: You can pick up your gear the afternoon before your ride (after 3pm) or on the morning of your booking. We’ll have everything sorted and ready to roll.
Return: All gear is due back by 5pm on your final day of hire. Please don’t leave it any later — our team needs time to check, clean, and prep for the next rider.
Running late? Give us a call as soon as you know — 022 583 1292. We’re pretty flexible as long as you keep us in the loop.
3. Booking in Advance
To give us time to have your setup dialled, we ask for at least 2 hours’ notice for same-day bookings. For bookings made less than 48 hours out, we’ll do everything we can to have your gear ready — but on busy days we can’t always guarantee it. If we can’t fulfil your order, we’ll contact you ASAP and offer the best available alternative.
4. Your Responsibility Once You’ve Got the Gear
From the moment you pick up your bike, it’s in your care. Treat it like your own — maybe better. That means:
- Keep it out of harm’s way when it’s not being ridden
- Don’t leave it unlocked in public
- Report any issues to us straight away, not at the end of the day
If you forget to pick up your gear and don’t let us know within 24 hours of your booking start, we’ll release it back to availability. We won’t be able to offer a refund in that case — but if something’s come up, just call us and we’ll do what we can.
5. Looking After the Equipment
All our bikes go out in great nick and we expect them back that way. Normal trail wear is totally fine — that’s what bikes are for. But if a bike comes back with damage beyond normal use, we’ll need to cover the repair or replacement cost.
Any damage — regardless of the cause — needs to be sorted before you head off. We’ll always be fair about it.
The kit is numbered and trackable. Please return exactly what you took out.
Failure to return gear (for any reason) means we’ll need to charge the full replacement value on top of your hire fee. That’s a last resort — just bring it back and we’re sweet.
6. Personal Use Only
Our bikes are for you, the person who booked — not your mate, your cousin, or anyone else. No on-lending, subletting, or sharing. If you need bikes for your whole crew, book them properly through us and we’ll sort everyone out.
You’re the best judge of your own ability on the trails. By booking with us you’re confirming you’re fit and capable of riding the gear you’ve hired, and that you’ll ride responsibly and within your limits.
7. Accidental Damage Cover (Optional)
Stuff happens on trails. For $5/day per bike, our optional Accidental Damage Cover takes care of repair or replacement costs if your bike takes a hit from hidden rocks, debris, or a genuine off-the-bike incident.
A few things it doesn’t cover:
- Loss or theft
- Damage from negligence or riding in ways that put the gear at unnecessary risk (e.g. hucking a rental XC bike off a big drop)
- Damage to accessories like helmets, pads, or gloves
No add-on? You’re still covered under our standard terms — you’re just personally responsible for repair/replacement costs if something breaks.
8. Multi-Day Hire
Sticking around for a few days? Legend. Our multi-day rates are some of the best value on the mountain. A few things to know:
- Payment for your first day is taken online at booking
- Remaining days are settled when you return the gear
- Rest days: If you want to skip a day mid-hire, no worries — just let us know by calling 022 583 1292 and we’ll log it. You won’t be charged for that day. Multi-day discount rates apply to consecutive riding days only.
Gear must still be back by 5pm on your final day.
9. Weather & Trail Closures
Ohakune’s trails are epic — but they’re also managed by the DOC and trail committees, which means they can close after heavy rain. If the trail you’ve booked for is officially closed on your hire day, and you haven’t yet collected your gear, we’ll move your booking to the next available open day at no cost. If you’d prefer a refund instead, we’ll sort that out minus a $5 processing fee.
If you’ve already picked up and the trail closes mid-ride or the following day — no charge for the closed day. Just let us know by 10am and we’ll sort it.
There’s no refund on clothing hire once it leaves the shop.
10. Cancellation Policy
Life happens. Here’s how we handle it:
| When you cancel | What happens |
|---|---|
| More than 24 hours before | Full refund minus a $5 processing fee |
| Less than 24 hours before (gear not collected) | No refund, but we’ll try to move your booking to another day |
| After collecting the gear | No refund |
All cancellations, changes, and reschedule requests must come through to us directly — email info@kuneshuttles.co.nz or call 022 583 1292.
Refunds go back to the original payment card and can take up to 3 working days.
11. Our Shuttle Service
Shuttle bookings follow the same general terms. A few specifics:
- Shuttle runs on set departure times — don’t be late. If you miss your slot we can’t always hold the van.
- Weather or track conditions beyond our control (slips, DOC closures, road access issues) may result in cancellations. We’ll contact you ASAP and reschedule or refund in full.
- Maximum passenger numbers apply per route. We won’t overbook but we also can’t add seats on the day.
12. Disclaimers
We maintain this site and our booking system to the best of our ability. We don’t guarantee it’ll always be error-free, perfectly up-to-date, or available at all times — though we do our best.
